WWII bomb brought to police station

6:10 am on 4 January 2014

A police station in west Auckland had to be evacuated on Friday afternoon after a member of the public brought in a practice bomb from World War II.

Roads around the station in Henderson were closed when the dummy round was brought in for disposal just before 1pm. The bomb squad was called in to remove the item.

Parts of Sel Peacock Drive and Buscomb Avenue were closed for about an hour while the removal took place.

A police spokesperson said staff have returned to the building, roads have been reopened and the person who brought in the practice bomb would not be facing charges.

Police said people should leave any item they suspect to be a hazard undisturbed and contact them.
