The Fire Service says two people were lucky to escape unscathed when their plane caught fire on a runway on Saturday afternoon.
A spokesperson says the two-seater light plane landed at Ardmore airport in south Auckland after it began having fuel problems.
She says while it was taxiing from the runway it suddenly caught fire.
The spokesperson says the two people inside managed to escape uninjured before flames engulfed the plane.
The incident has been referred to the Civil Aviation Authority to investigate.
