No arrests in Libya killings - MFAT

New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade says there have been no arrests made over the killing of a New Zealand woman and British man in Libya.

Lynn Howie and Mark de Salis were found shot dead on a beach on 2 January near the coastal area of Mellitah, where there is a large oil and gas complex.

Libyan news agencies earlier reported the arrest of four people in connection with the deaths.

But the ministry said on Monday it has been advised by Libya that no arrests have yet been made.

''We welcome the efforts that are being made to bring those responsible for Ms Howie's death to justice,'' a spokesperson said.
