The Law Society says raising awareness of depression among lawyers will be a key focus in 2014.
President Chris Moore said the death of prominent defence lawyer Greg King last year highlighted the need for a renewed focus on the issue.
Mr Moore said depression is common among lawyers as legal work can be highly stressful, and the Law Society has systems in place to try and help members affected.
He said many law firms have also been under financial pressure over the past few years, and that could also contribute to stress and illness.
