Police are investigating after a patrol car collided with another car, injuring the other driver.
The crash happened on State Highway 26 in Waikato on Monday, as the patrol car was trying to stop a third car which was speeding.
The driver of the other car was taken to hospital as a precaution after he said he had chest pain. The officer was shaken but unhurt.
Waikato district deployment manager, Inspector Jeff Penno, said police deeply regret what happened and the crash has been reported to the police professional standards unit.
The Serious Crash Unit is also investigating.
