Chemical alert at industrial site

10:55 am on 7 January 2014

A chemical reaction between titanium plates and 10 litres of acid triggered a hazardous materials incident at an industrial unit in Hamilton.

Firefighters were called to the Alfa Laval distribution centre in Sandwich Road shortly after 9am on Tuesday when smoke came from the tank the materials had mixed in.

The Fire Service said no-one was injured, and Worksafe New Zealand has been informed of what happened.
