Christchurch police say they have spoken to three of the four girls involved in an assault of another girl that was recorded and posted on the internet.
They say the 14-year-old was assaulted by the girls aged between 12 and 16 in the suburb of Shirley on Saturday.
Detective Constable Simon Keith said police identified four possible offenders after interviewing the victim on Monday.
Mr Keith said the family of one of the girls contacted police on Tuesday and it is likely the four will be referred to police youth aid services.
Meanwhile, three teenaged males, one 18 and the others 17, have been arrested following a fight in Papanui on Monday evening,
Police believe the fight had been prompted by Facebook posts calling for retaliation over the assault of the girl.
