Brent Dudley spent days in hospital after he was shot once in the stomach on 27 December last year.

His wife, Mona Dudley, was originally charged with assault, but that has been replaced with a charge of unlawfully injuring him.

The 39-year-old is accused of injuring him in a such a way that she would be guilty of manslaughter if Mr Dudley had died. The charge carries a maximum three-year jail term.

The couple's son, Stephen Dudley, died in hospital following a fight at a school rugby practice in June last year.

Mona Dudley said publicly after his death that violence in the community was not acceptable.

She appeared in the Waitakere District Court on Wednesday and was granted bail until her next appearance on 5 February.

Her bail conditions include not drinking and not associating with Mr Dudley without permission.
