Brothers arrested after liquor store burglary

3:31 pm on 9 January 2014

Two brothers have been arrested over the burglary of a liquor store in Cambridge.

Waikato police say neighbours in the suburb of Leamington reported hearing noises just after 3am on Thursday.

Police say the brothers, aged 14 and 15, used a metal grate from a drain to smash the store's large front window. They then got two wheelie bins from the back of the store and filled them with alcohol.

Officers arrived, at which point the pair tried to escape, but both were tracked down with the help of a police dog.

They will appear in the Hamilton Youth Court on Thursday.
