Documents served on springs operators

A notice relating to dangerous buildings has been served on the operators of the Waingaro Hot Springs in Ngaruawahia.

Waikato District Council owns the land and leases it to Chuhar and Amro Singh who own the buildings and facilities on site.

The council says it is worried health and safety obligations have not been met and there is a high risk the public could be put in a dangerous situation.

It says that in December last year, notices relating to the Fencing of Swimming Pools Act 1987 and clauses of the New Zealand Building Code were served to the Singhs. As a result, areas deemed unsafe or potentially posing a risk were fenced off.

The council has met with the Singhs and says it is their decision as to whether the business stays open or not.
