The Lotteries Commission says per head of population, the Tararua region won the most prize money last year.
A couple from Dannevirke won $14.1 million dollars in April, which means on average locals won $867.58 per capita.
Auckland's Waitemata and Gulf area won the second most money per person with winnings averaging $475.26 per capita.
More than $411 million in prize money was won last year.
The commission says it has increased the amount given to the Lottery Grants Board to $201.8 million.
