Cause of beach bacteria not known

Auckland Council says it may never be known what caused a high level of harmful bacteria that forced it to close a popular inner-city beach this week.

Warning signs putting Mission Bay off-limits since Wednesday have been taken down and the

council says it's safe to swim there again.

It says the bacterial surge was probably a one-off and could have come from a dead animal in the water.
