Mayor expects appeals against valuations

Christchurch mayor Lianne Dalziel says some people who have upgraded their properties beyond pre-quake levels may appeal against the latest valuations.

Households will receive official valuations in March, after delays arising from the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011.

The council says the re-valuations will not take quake damage into account and will assume properties have been returned to a pre-quake state when repairs are complete.

It says the new valuations will take into account recent property sales for comparable nearby properties.

Ms Dalziel says owners may want to appeal against a valuation if they have upgraded their properties since the earthquakes.

She says appeals can be lodged six weeks from March.
