A woman has been seriously injured by a falling tree in high winds north of Nelson.
The 70-year-old was working in a paddock in Motueka when it's believed the tree blew over and struck her from behind with no warning on Friday.
She has been flown to hospital where she is said to be in a serious but stable condition with injuries to her leg, chest and back.
A severe weather warning is in place for the Nelson region due to strong south-westerly gales.
