Petone blaze under control

10:05 pm on 20 January 2014

A large fire in a building in Petone has been brought under control, but firefighters are still working to put it out completely on Monday night.

The Fire Service was called to the blaze an old Petone College building about 7.40pm.

A spokesperson says 18 fire trucks attended and it is likely one or two of them will remain overnight to ensure that the blaze doesn't reignite.

The building was well alight when crews arrived. No one was injured.

The Fire Service says the blaze is not related to a strong 6.2-magnitude earthquake which hit near Eketahuna in the Tararua District on Monday afternoon and was felt widely throughout the country.
