Home detention for assaulting model

8:34 pm on 31 January 2014

An off-duty detective has been sentenced to six months' home detention for attacking a male model at a fashion show after party in Auckland.

Jan de Moor, who has since resigned from the force, punched and kneed Elliot Serjeant several times in the head after Mr Serjeant stumbled into him on the dance floor in September 2012.

At the Auckland District Court on Friday, Judge Robert Ronayne said a home detention sentence was necessary in denouncing De Moor's behaviour.

Mr Serjeant said he is happy with the sentence and glad it's all over.

De Moor served as a policeman for eight years and was a detective constable with Counties Manukau police before resigning.
