The head of Taita College says he's happy with the way the police dealt with reports of a student walking towards the school carrying a pellet gun.

Police in Wellington say someone reported seeing a student with a b-b gun walking toward the school in the Hutt Valley suburb of Taita.

College principal John Murdoch said four police officers searched the school for about 15 minutes but didn't find anything.

Mr Murdoch said the school did not shut during that time and the students were not in any danger.
