The London Ambulance Service says it wants to recruit paramedics from New Zealand.

The BBC reports it is recruiting overseas for the first time in a bid to fill vacancies for 250 registered paramedics.

A spokesperson says Australia and New Zealand paramedics have skills and training that closely match those in the Britain, and it has approval to recruit 100 from outside Europe.

These paramedics will undergo a short course before they begin treating patients.
