Extremely rare pollen found on Mellory Manning's clothes was also found at a Mongrel Mob property where it is alleged she was killed, a jury has been told.

Mauha Fawcett, 26, is charged with murdering the 27-year-old Christchurch woman in December 2008 as part of his gang initiation.

The Crown says Ms Manning, who was working as a prostitute, was picked up on Manchester Street by gang members, including Mr Fawcett, and taken to a property in Avonside where she was attacked and killed.

Forensic scientist Dallas Mildenhall told the High Court in Christchurch on Friday that a rare mutated grass pollen was found in relatively high numbers in Ms Manning's clothes.

Dr Mildenhall says broome grass with the same mutated pollen was later found at the Mongrel Mob property, which suggests that she was there.

Police officer Murray Batchelor told the court he searched the area where Ms Manning's cell phone had given a signal on the night she died to try and locate properties with three grasses found on her body.

After narrowing it down to nine properties with all three grasses, Mr Batchelor said only the Mongrel Mob house in Avonside could have been easily accessed.
