A person is in a serious condition after a crash on State Highway 25A near Thames that has closed the road.
The accident happened on the Kopu-Hikuai Road in Coromandel Forest Park.
The Fire Service said the serious crash on Friday afternoon involved up to four vehicles. Two helicopters are being used to transport patients to hospital.
Six people were have been injured, one seriously, and the other five are in moderate to minor conditions. Two people were also trapped in their vehicles.
The New Zealand Transport Agency said the highway is closed while patients are evacuated and police conduct a scene investigation.
