Algal bloom measures at Rotoiti

8:48 am on 16 February 2014

Bay of Plenty Regional Council staff are spraying chemicals on an area of Lake Rotoiti to try to prevent an algal bloom developing.

The council says bacteria growth in Okawa Bay has reached a point where it could pose a risk to human health and spraying is being carried out this weekend.

It says locals have been notified and signs posted at Okawa Bay warning lake users it is not safe to swim while the spraying is underway.
