Police are asking for public help as they investigate the death of a cyclist near Auckland.

The 63-year-old was found about 5pm on Tuesday lying on a road in the Rodney district. Members of the public performed CPR, but he died at the scene.

Police say it is too early in the investigation to say whether a vehicle was involved in the crash, but are asking anyone who may have seen the cyclist to contact them.

The man was wearing a blue and orange cycling shirt, black cycling shorts and a red and white helmet.
