Underground cable connection delayed

1:31 pm on 21 February 2014

The repairs of a quake-damaged underground power cable in Christchurch's eastern suburbs has been delayed by at least seven months because of a hold-up in getting a major bridge across the Avon River repaired.

For the past three years, power has been supplied via a 20-kilometre-long temporary overhead cable.

The lines operator Orion says while the new cable will be laid on time, it won't be able to connect it until the repairs to the Gayhurst Road bridge are completed.

The company has already informed residents along the route of the temporary overhead cable of the delay.
