Workers at Canterbury's Mt Hutt ski area are close to reinstating the triple chairlift after an avalanche last year damaged the bottom station following record snowfall in late June.
Work is also being carried out on a new terrain park further up the mountain and trail improvements in time for the ski season.
Ski field manager James McKenzie says the damaged structure has been removed and extensive earthworks carried out. Reconstruction work is scheduled to be completed towards the end of May.
Mt Hutt is set to open for the season on 7 June.
