New Zealand posted its highest migration gain in more than a decade last month, as fewer people moved overseas and more settled here.
Official figures show a seasonally adjusted net gain of 3100 people last month compared with a gain of 2900 in December.

The gain in January was the highest since May 2003, and it was the 13th straight month of migration gains.
The number of short-term visitors to New Zealand rose 12.2 percent in January compared with the same month last year, led by an increase in visitors from China, Hong Kong, Australia and Britain.
Auckland and Canterbury led the regions for migration gains.
Unadjusted figures showed 95,200 migrants arrived in the January 2014 year, up 11 percent compared with the January 2013 year.
Migrant departures fell 19 percent to 69,500, resulting in a net gain of 25,700 migrants in the January 2014 year, the highest since the April 2004 year.
