The search for a German tourist in the Travers Saddle area of Nelson Lakes National Park resumed on Thursday.
A backpack belonging to Christian Ulf Erik Prehn, 19, was located last Friday beside a track in the area and police believe it may have been there since 25 February.
Search coordinator Senior Constable Dave Colville says three teams are being flown into the Travers Saddle area on Thursday morning.
He says the searchers are all equipped for an overnight stay if required.
