Kiwis say Sochi atmosphere fine

The head of New Zealand's winter paralympic team says the atmosphere in the village is positive, despite the escalating conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Several western dignitaries have pulled out of attending the games in the Russian city of Sochi as the international community puts pressure on Russia to end its aggression in the Crimean peninsula.

New Zealand chef de mission Ashley Ligh, says the athletes in the village are focussing on the competition ahead and are in good spirits.

He says he has seen UkraInian and Russian athletes dining together.

Mr Light says he is optimistic that New Zealand's team of just three athletes will bring home some medals.
