The police have named the eight-year-old boy who died in an incident at a logging site in the Manuka Gorge in Otago.
He was Jonathan James Kerr of Milton.
The police were called to the logging site just after five o'clock on Friday, but say the child's death was not related to any logging activity.
They say forensic and electrical testing will be carried out on a vehicle from the site.
The boy's death has been referred to the coroner.
