The High Court ruled on Friday that the South Taranaki District Council has the legal power to add fluoride to its water.

A referendum on reintroducing fluoride to Hamilton's water was held last year, but the city council then delayed its own vote until the Taranaki case was decided.

Ms Hardaker says that now that judgment has come out, it frees the council to make a decision.

She says the referendum result, which supported bringing fluoride back, will be considered at the next council meeting on 27 March.
