A teacher who faked dying of cancer to get close to a student has been de-registered.

In June 2012, the teacher told her student, and the student's mother, she was dying.

She told the Teacher's Disciplinary Tribunal she did this to get closer to the student's mother, who she had a crush on.

The teacher, who had a serious psychological disorder, then faked symptoms and extreme pain for months.

The tribunal says text messages she sent to the student were psychologically abusive.

It has cancelled the woman's registration and censured the misconduct, as well as ordering she pay 40 percent of the complainant's costs.
