Workers fined over scaffolding accident

Two workers have been fined more than $22,000 in relation to a Dunedin scaffolding accident which left a roofer with serious injuries last year.

Daryl Robertson fell three metres after alterations to scaffolding left a trap door unsecured and he suffered leg fractures.

WorkSafe says site manager Che O'Neill has been ordered to pay more than $12,000 in fines and reparations for allowing the scaffolding to be heightened by unqualified workers.

Another man, Andrew Currier, works for scaffolding company APL Kwikform and signed the scaffolding off as safe, despite noticing the illegal alteration the day before Mr Robertson's fall. He has been ordered to pay more than $10,000.
