Members of a basketball team have been given a police award for saving a woman and a dog from a river in Paeroa.
Regan Thomas, 17, and several other team mates, heard cries for help from a woman on the Ohinemuri River, last week.
They formed a human chain to rescue the woman, as well as a dog, which took about half an hour.
Another woman was also found and rescued by emergency services.
Regan Thomas says he didn't know the woman that he and his team mates rescued.
