Councils in Canterbury have received their final reimbursement from the Government for Civil Defence costs related to the Canterbury earthquakes.

The Government has paid a total of $215.288 million to Canterbury Regional Council, Christchurch City Council, Waimakariri District Council and Selwyn District Council for their responses to the September 2010 and February, June and December 2011 earthquakes.

Civil Defence Minister Nikki Kaye said the money covers essential costs incurred in accommodating, transporting, feeding and clothing displaced people, as well as essential infrastructure repair.
