Police in Gisborne have launched a homicide inquiry after the body of a woman was found at a house in the suburb of Riverdale.
Officers were called to the house at the corner of Dalrymple Road and Atkinson Street shortly after 2pm on Thursday.
Detective Senior Seargent David Greig said police would treat the death as a homicide until a post-mortem has been carried out.
Mr Greig said police are still working to piece together what happened and the circumstances of the woman's death are unclear. A detailed scene examination will be conducted on Friday.
