New criteria for film funding

The Government has announced new criteria for film companies (both local and foreign) that apply for greater financial assistance.

The Screen Production Grant fund took effect on Tuesday, replacing two previous funds.

International productions can now apply for a 20 percent grant for films they shoot in New Zealand, up from 15 percent. They can push that up to 25 percent if they can prove significant economic benefits to the country.

A 40 percent rebate will continue to be available for local productions, and that now includes projects written by a foreigner but with a strong connection to New Zealand.
