Friends and family banned from betting on rugby

The Rugby Players Association says a new rule banning the friends and family of players from betting on sport does not make sense and will be difficult to enforce.

New Zealand Rugby says the ban, which mirrors rules set by the International Rugby Board, is needed to prevent corruption.

The Players Association says it makes sense to enforce the rule on players and employees, but it's ridiculous to extend it to anyone else.

However, the association says it's not concerned about the rule because it doesn't think it will ever be enforced.

New Zealand Rugby insists the ban is needed to prevent any hint of corruption from entering the sport.
