Police have formally warned a Dunedin man for making a death threat against former Australian netball coach Norma Plummer.

The threat came to light when Ms Plummer was in Dunedin two weeks ago with her current side, West Coast Fever.

Netball Western Australia says the death threat was made in late 2013 in a posting on her personal website.

A police spokesperson said a 49-year-old man has been warned about the incident and the matter has been resolved.

Before joining the Fever, Plummer coached Australia to two World Championship wins.

During and after her tenure she raised the hackles of New Zealanders with comments on netball issues, including her infamous "bunch of scrubbers" remark about the Silver Ferns, which she later insisted had been taken out of context.
