A 21 year old woman was critically injured when the car she was in crashed into a tree and power pole in Hamilton.
The car hit a tree in Melville, then bounced, and crashed into a power pole, snapping it, about 3.30am on Saturday.
Police said the woman was a passenger in the car and was taken to Waikato Hospital. They said the driver was drunk and speed was also a factor.
Diversions were in place around the scene while the Serious Crash Unit investigated.
