Police have named the pedestrian who died in Rakaia south of Christchurch, on Saturday night.
He was Danny Mather Hendriks, from Rakaia.
The 18-year-old was hit by a car at about 11pm on Action Road.
The car stopped and emergency services were called but he died at the scene. The Serious Crash Unit are investigating.
