Photo blackmailer gets detention

A man who blackmailed two women into sending revealing photographs to him has been sentenced to five months' home detention.

Hayden Needham, 25, sent text messages to a woman, posing as one of her work colleagues, and she sent him naked photos.

Justice Duffy told the High Court in Auckland that Needham then posed as another man and told the victim he found the photos on a second-hand laptop, and would post them online if he did not get more.

Needham found photos of the second woman, who was a neighbour, on CDs among rubbish she left in a shared garage and threatened to post them online if he did not get more.

Justice Duffy took time off Needham's sentence for remorse and the early guilty pleas.

She also ordered Needham to pay $420 towards counselling for one of his victims.
