Hazmat team going to scene of cyanide incident

A specialist team is on its way to Bannockburn in Central Otago after an incident involving cyanide.

There was a large emergency call-out of police, fire, ambulance and hazardous substances teams to the Bannockburn area, near Cromwell on Friday morning.

The police say they had concerns for a man who lived at the property on the Bannockburn to Cromwell Road.

He was located at about 8am and taken to Dunstan hospital for assessment.

All emergency personnel who attended the scene were decontaminated because of the presence of cyanide.

A Fire Service hazardous materials team from Dunedin is expected reach the scene at about midday to decontaminate the area and dispose of dangerous substances.
