Warriors boss links job to finals spot

The chief executive of the Warriors rugby league club says he is serious about quitting if his team does not make the NRL finals this year.

Warriors coach Matthew Elliott stood down last week and the club's two co-owners, Eric Watson and Sir Owen Glenn, appear to be split over the direction of the club.

Chief executive Wayne Scurrah told Radio New Zealand's Morning Report programme if the team's on-field performance does not improve, someone else should lead the club.

He says it would be a poor result if the Warriors missed the play-offs for a third consecutive year and it would be time for someone fresh to take the job.

The Warriors lost to the Canterbury Bulldogs 21-20 on Sunday, in their first match under interim coach Andrew McFadden.
