Woman dies in Auckland crash

9:36 am on 21 April 2014

Another death on the roads has raised the Easter holiday road toll to four.

Police say a woman died when her car and a truck collided near Riverhead in Auckland about 7.20am on Monday. The woman was trapped in her vehicle and died at the scene, they said.

The Coatsville Riverhead Highway (State Highway 28) was closed between the Riverhead turn-off on State Highway 16 and Old Railway Road, and diversions were in place.

The toll has climbed to higher than the three killed at Easter weekend last year.

In 2012 there were no road deaths at Easter weekend, while the highest recorded number killed was 21 in 1971. The official holiday weekend finishes at 6am on Tuesday.
