Makara victim tells police of shooting

12:34 pm on 24 April 2014

The man shot on Wellington's Makara Beach over the long weekend has spoken to the police from his hospital bed about what happened.

The 55-year old man was shot on the beach on Monday and had to flee his attackers before seeking help at a nearby house.

Two men, aged 34 and 44, have appeared at the Wellington District Court charged with causing grievous bodily harm.

The police say they're likely to face further charges.

However, the police say it's now clear a third person is involved.

They say eight investigators are working on the case, and divers are being used Thursday to search for the shotgun in the Makara Stream.

The police say the victim's recovery will be lengthy and he's likely to stay in hospital for at least another week.
