A woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after she fell from a waterfall in Whakatane.
Police were called to the Wairaka falls on the Waiwere stream about midday on Friday, after a member of the public was concerned for the woman's safety.
They say as they attempted to rescue her she fell about 15 metres into a pool halfway down the falls.
Rescuers had to abseil down the cliff to retrieve her, an operation which took three hours.
