Work has begun on improving safety along a pathway near Victoria University in Wellington, following recent attacks on women in the area.
In separate incidents last weekend, two women were attacked by a man while walking home early in the morning using a path between The Terrace and the Boyd Wilson sportsfield below the university. In March, there was another attack in the same area.
Wellington City Council spokesperson Richard MacLean says council and university staff have started installing three CCTV cameras, while trees and hedges are being cut back to improve lighting.
Mr MacLean says the council is also looking into whether vehicle access to a nearby school carpark at night should be restricted.
