Burned man flown to hospital

A man was airlifted to hospital from Riwaka near Nelson on Saturday morning after he fell into a bonfire.

Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter said the man, 21, was with friends when he stumbled into the bonfire and was burned on the body.

He was flown to Hutt Hospital burns unit and is in a stable condition.

And a tramper was flown out of the Kaimai ranges on Saturday morning after injuring his knee.

The man, 36, from Katikati was tramping with his two sons when the injury occurred on Friday evening.

The trio stayed at the Motutapere Hut overnight and three members of the Tauranga Land Search and Rescue walked in to assess his condition.

Trustpower Rescue Helicopter flew him to Tauranga hospital on Saturday morning.
