A man with head injuries after being beaten with a chair in South Auckland, is still fighting for his life and remains in a critical condition.
Police said he was knocked unconscious and had to be put on a ventilator after the incident in Mangere at about 5am on Saturday.
He has undergone a CT scan and is now in a critical condition in Middlemore hospital.
Senior Sergeant Kai Shao said the assault was not a random incident, as two groups had been fighting earlier in the night.
Two people are now under arrest.
