Meeting to help community after fraud

10:00 am on 7 May 2014

A meeting is being organised to help a south Auckland school community after the sentencing of the school's former principal for fraud.

Colleen Gray admitted stealing $30,000 from the decile one Mayfield Primary School in Otara to pay for trips to Australia and dinners in upmarket Auckland restaurants.

Gray and her husband Bruce Gray were on Tuesday sentenced to home detention for their parts in the fraud, and ordered to pay $27,000 in reparation.

Joe Iosefo, who has been a volunteer worker at the school for more than 20 years, said many people's lives had been affected.

"I am so angry, there's a lot of money that has gone missing. The judge was very fair, although I wanted them both to go to jail for what they've done."

Mr Iosefo said he's organising a community meeting so people could talk about what's happened and allow people to move on.
