Warriors rugby league player Konrad Hurrell has apologised over a sex video which surfaced on social media this week.

The video reportedly showed the 22-year-old engaged in a sex act with 39-year-old Shortland Street actress Teuila Blakely - while driving.

The Warriors club has fined him $5000 and ordered him to undergo social media counselling.

However, he will play in the weekend's NRL game against Canberra.

Speaking in a video posted on the Warriors' website, Hurrell spoke of his embarassment and apologised to the club, the fans, his family and friends.

"I was being stupid and I've learned a lot from what I've done," he said.

"I just want to move on and keep playing footy.

"I'm just glad I get the opportunity to play this weekend and hopefully I'll perform well for everybody."

Blakely told the New Zealand Herald the film was taken two months ago and Hurrell sent it to a friend on Snapchat, an app which allows users to send photos and videos which are then automatically deleted after a short period of time.

She said she did not know who uploaded the video on to the internet.
